Enjoy reading this while I'm standing in a shit-splattered downtown alley all night

Working all night fries me, so I can't think right now.

Although I normally ignore meme's, here's a one courtesy of Shane Nickerson.

It'll have to hold you until tomorrow (or the day after).

4 things about Los Angeles

Four Jobs I've Had In My Life in LA:

Set Lighting Technician

Bartender at a celeb-infested night club

Platform model for a hair product company (this entails standing on a stage in front of hundreds of people at a hair show while being given a terrible haircut and being expected to smile)

I don't know if this counts, but once I applied to be a tour guide at Universal Studios. They turned me down because I was too cynical.

Four Movies About LA I Could Watch Over And Over:

LA Confidential
Chinatown
LA Story
Pulp Fiction

Four Places I've Lived All Over L.A. (With Food Memories From Each):

Culver City: Childhood memories of standing in line at Tito's Taco's. I could never get my tacos fast enough. I loved those tacos so much as a child, and now they make me sick.

San Fernando Valley: There was (and presumably still is) a really fancy hillside restaurant called "The Odyssey". It was the first time I ever went to a fancy place, and it was always an occasion, although I don't really remember the food.

Silverlake-ish: The food booths at the Sunset Junction Street Fair every August - bands, crafts, everyone I knew was there, and despite the fact that it was boiling hot, TONS of great food.

Pre-gentrification Hollywood: Those ratty (and so very wonderful) Thai places along Hollywood Boulevard. They were all great and dirt cheap.

Four LA-Themed Shows I Love(d) To Watch:

Entourage
Police Woman
Arrested Development
Animaniacs

Four Places I Would Vacation At In LA:

A garden cottage at the Chateau Marmont hotel
Deep Creek Hot Springs
Catalina
Malibu

Four Of My Favorite Foods Found In LA:

The secret sushi place I'll never tell any of you about.
Pink's Hot Dogs
Anything at Real Food Daily
Steaks and martinis at Mastros

Four Places In LA I Would Rather Be Right Now:

Burke Williams
The swimming pool at the Peninsula Hotel
Drinking tea in the garden at the Chateau Marmont (and posting this via the free wireless there)
The beach in front of David Geffen's house

The Animaniacs were one of my favorite cartoons in high school - we're animaniacs, and we're zany to the max, so just sit back and relax, you'll laugh till you collapse, we're an-i-man-i-acs. when i first drove past the warner bros. lot - i was so excited to the see the tower where Yakko, Wakko and Dot live. ;)

Ha! I know that alley(s). Just got called and asked to work Fri. night on what is prob the same show as you. Fortunately, I just had shoulder surgery so I could say no. You know its bad when surgery is preferable to the work conditions. Don't forget to burn your gloves and boots!

I grew up in Culver City and also have fond memories of hanging out at Tito's (and the adjacent Johnnie's). I was just at Tito's a few days ago and seeing it mentioned in your post made me smile. I have yet to grow disgusted with their tacos or burritos and I love to take all my friends who did not grow up in LA to Tito's. I think its a must do when you are visiting LA.

Ha-ha-ha. Loved the kicker at the end about the "beach in front of David Geffen's house."

Nicely done.

Tito's - si; The Odyssey - no. Food at the Odyssey continues to be terrible, as it always has been, but what they're really selling is the view.

I've been reading your blog for several months now & for some reason this evening, I scrolled down your list of links & saw Knitty. Then I clicked on your profile & saw your KAL.

Great that you knit! Me, too! Love reading about what you do.

tito's tacos
Deep Creek Hot Springs
Catalina
Malibu
Real food Daily

I appreciate the list, but none of these places are in LA. So. Cal, yes, but LA no. Sorry to be so nitpicky but I'm a native angelino and I hate to see it get passed up by places outside the city limits.

Moll - that was a great cartoon, wasn't it?

Mike - don't we all hate that alley?

Maxie - I wish I could still eat Tito's!

Christopher - Thanks!

Anon - what is it with hillside places that suck? Yamashiro's got a great view and sub-par food as well.

Neil - Well, rules were made to be broken, weren't they? :)

Anon - nope. I don't really like Amagi, but there's a place in Hollywood called Sushi Ike that's amazing.

Knitter - Thanks!

Anon - actually, Real Food Daily is in the city limits of LA (Beverly and LaCienega), but everything else is within the bounds of Los Angeles County, which is how I interpret "Los Angeles". County, not city. I'm a native Angeleno as well - or maybe, by your definition, I'm not: I was born in LA County, but not in the city limits.
