One of the things that's so difficult about night shoots is trying to sleep during the day. I got home from work at 7 am, slept for three hours and am now wide awake with no hope of getting any more shuteye.
Ugh. I have to be back at work at 8pm.
I'm hoping that if I lay down and pretend to be asleep, I'll actually fall asleep, but I think the sticky sweat-soaked sheets might keep me awake.
At least we're on the West side tonight. Last night in the San Fernando Valley felt like a furnace*.
*For my non-LA based readers, the West side of the city is normally cooler than everywhere else, since it's close to the ocean, and the Valley is at least 10 degrees hotter than downtown.

Woodland Hills just got the "award" for the hottest temp ever recorded in Los Angeles County-119 degrees. And 17 consecutive days of 100 plus temps. Whoo hoo! Time to celebrate by climbing into a Caddy Maggie (Cadillac Margarita, the best thing ever to happen to a margarita) and not coming out til October, when the Santa Anas start blowing.
I moved to the westside(Marina)and i feel guilty when I see the Valley temps.Enjoy your blogg greatly, nice job, John.
Peggy, if you're trying to sleep, you might consider watching any movie based on a Jane Austen novel. Those always knock me right out.
I would call you a light-weight because I've worked the grave yard shift for almost half of my life now, but no one can sleep through that kind of heat.
Get a good fan that makes just enough noise to drown out the outside ambient noise, but soft enough to cool off the room.
Tylenol PM knocks me the fuck out. But with this heat (even with some A/C) it's been rough. I love to sleep under the covers, but that's just impossible, and regardless of me taking meds or just drinking myself stupid, I spend all day groggy.
Duvetyne on all the windows, ear plugs, and melatonin pills. That's what worked for me. YMMV.
half an Ambien does it. Just half. Those things are expensive and you get twice the usage out of a prescription.
Hey there - really love your blog - found it from the LA Times . . . especially would like to know if you ever got the rat back for the photo - did I miss it? Here in Playa Del Rey they were filming something yesterday - turned Culver into South Padre Island - the LA cop said it was SNL girls doing a movie - just 2 blocks from my pad - wondered if you know anything about it.
