Since I can't buy fireworks in Los Angeles (they're illegal here - they have professional fireworks off the Santa Monica pier, and I think I can see them from where I am, but it's not nearly as much fun), my plans today are to do my laundry (glamorous, I know), lay on the beach, and tonight I'm going to watch "The Great Escape".

I'd be going to the Johnny Rockets in Santa Monica to celebrate the 4th with a Streamliner veggie burger (no grilled onions), fries, and a milkshake. But since I'm in a tiny backwater town with no Johnny Rockets, I'll probably end up doing laundry too. :-(
Fireworks may be illegal in Los Angeles, but they're legal in crazy places like Lawndale and Inglewood. I just drove from Redondo Beach to West Hollywood, and it felt like I was driving in Baghdad during heavy fighting. Call me a wimp, but you couldn't pay me to light one of those things.
I'm not sure fireworks are really illegal in LA. I live in Little Armenia and they were going off all over my street, and when the cops drove down the street, they didn't seem to care (except that kids were in the middle of the street chasing the sparks off the fireworks!)
